Torque Converter: Deciphering the Hummer EV's claim of 11,500 lb-ft of twist

By now, electric vehicle fans and off-road gearheads alike have had a few hours to digest the GMC Hummer EV and all its bold claims. From Extract Mode to e4WD to CrabWalk, the truck has no shortage of gee-whiz features that prove we’re all on the cusp of living in THE FUTURE.

There is one claim that requires a bit of inspection, though: that towering torque figure.

GMC is claiming the most powerful versions of the forthcoming Hummer EV will bend the earth with 11,500 lb.-ft. of torque. Considering even the most powerful consumer-grade heavy-duty diesel pickup heaves out “only” 1,050 lb.-ft. of the stuff, we figured our readers would appreciate a deep dive into Hummer’s precious declaration.
