Report: Hummer even more likely to come back as an EV brand

GM is looking to enter the EV truck game and could revive the Hummer name as a premium electric brand, according to new reports that back up speculation first posited this summer.

According to Reuters, a US$3-billion injection into the Detroit-Hamtramck plant will be focused on the automaker’s new BT1 electric truck/SUV program. This information was made public by the UAW (United Auto Workers) union as part of its negotiations with GM.

The BT1 truck project will produce an electric pickup for the GMC brand; and an electric SUV for Cadillac, both slated for 2023. Before those two are completed, however, low-volume production will begin in late 2021 of the first BT1 model, a pickup truck under a different brand name.
