Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu will have its first Electric Forest
The City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is extremely pleased to announce that it will have its very first electric forest thanks to a carbon neutral initiative organized as part of the 3rd edition of the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show.
This original idea was instigated by Jean-François Desaliers, President of Eden Canada, and Pierre-Luc Lamontagne of NatureLab.World, who have already brought several tree planting projects to life in the Saint-Jean area. To support the creation of this “electric forest,” which will be made up of 1,000 trees, the event’s promoters will directly raise funds from visitors of the trade show who are looking to offset CO2 emissions generated as a result of their travels. The trees will be planted in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu this fall to reforest a devitalized patch of urban land. A portion of the funds will also be used to plant trees in Madagascar.
“We are proud that our city has been selected for this tree-planting project. Thanks to our partners, this new initiative will allow us to further our objective to plant 50,000 trees in 10 years, a goal the municipality established in 2015 as part of its Plan to conserve natural environments,” underscored Mayor Alain Laplante.
The Montreal Electric Vehicle Show will take place May 3-5 at Place Bonaventure. The event was created to help people discover new trends in the field of transportation and electric motorized recreation. This initiative’s carbon neutral approach is at the heart of the mission for this event, which aims to fight climate change.
Eden Canada’s Canadian offices are located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. This non-profit organization works on conservation and ecosystem restoration projects and raises awareness among various audiences to combat climate change.
NatureLab.World develops reforestation projects in the Greater Montreal Area and beyond. Their plantations rehabilitate degraded ecosystems and generate carbon credits sold on the voluntary market to offset carbon footprints.
