Smaller electric Toyota BZ3X spotted in Detroit

Despite rightly hedging its bets against an all-electric future by offering a portfolio of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, Toyota is still choosing to put a few eggs in the EV basket. Its efforts are part of what the company calls Beyond Zero, explaining the “BZ” portion of these car’s mystifying monikers.

Our boots on the ground have caught the latest test mule from this range of vehicles, a rig they say appears smaller than the existing Toyota BZ4X on sale currently. Absent any official news, we are calling this car the “BZ3X” for sake of brevity; what it will actually be called is unclear.

This camouflaged unit was spied on the streets of Detroit, a detail which all but confirms the machine you see here is intended for the North American market, and not reserved only for the home team in Japan.
