Buying tips to reduce wait times for a new EV
Demand for electric vehicles is strong. Not only is automakers’ production capacity insufficient, but supply chains have become increasingly challenged — first by a certain pandemic, then by a shortage of chips.
That means the most popular EVs, which also happen to be the most affordable — Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID.4 or even the Toyota bZX4 and its twin Subaru Solterra — will require at least a year of waiting before you can park one in your garage.
But here’s the good news: there are some new electric vehicles that you could take home in the next few weeks, or even tomorrow, for a select few. Of course, most of those feature prices so high that they exceed the maximum thresholds for government rebates encouraging electric purchases, hence their relative lack of popularity.
Nonetheless, if you’re in a hurry to get behind the wheel of an EV, here are the models you should be looking at.
