Why are Europeans buying more EVs than North Americans?
Fully 21 per cent of all the new cars sold in Europe last August were plug-in electric vehicles, according to JATO Dynamics. Now, to be fair, about a third of those were plug-in hybrids.
Nonetheless, the U.K.-based automobile industry analytics giant says an astounding 151,737 battery electrics and PHEVs were registered in 26 of the nations that report to Brussels.
Even more newsworthy — it certainly made headlines on the other side of the pond — is that those 151,000-odd plug-ins outsold diesels by 10,100 units, the first time that’s ever happened in the once-oil-burner-friendly European Union.
