General Motors aims to go completely carbon-neutral by 2040

GM is aiming to bring its fleet’s tailpipe emissions to zero by 2035, on its way to a goal of complete carbon neutrality by 2040, the automaker said January 28.

The news comes after several policy shifts made by the now Democratically-controlled Congress, which has rejoined the Paris Climate Accord in an effort to reduce global worldwide emissions.

“For General Motors, our most significant carbon impact comes from tailpipe emissions of the vehicles that we sell — in our case, it’s 75 per cent,” GM CEO Mary Barra said.
