Most efficient hybrid vehicles in every major category

Longtime readers (thanks, both of you) may recall a similar list penned by this publication just a couple of short months ago which focused on non-hybrids. As promised, we’ve gathered an array of hybrid powered vehicles for this follow-up list.

If a quirk of measurement places a pure gasser ahead of a hybrid in any particular segment, you’ll find it on the other list — not this one. Please note nothing on this list can be plugged into the wall; no PHEVs and EVs.

As before, our yardstick is the ‘combined’ rating from NRCan which reflects 55 per cent city driving and 45 per cent highway driving. The 2024 model year is our guardrail. It is noted hair-splitters may froth into their coffee about the distinction of ‘crossover’ vs ‘SUV’ but know that, in this instance, we are using SUV for brevity.
